Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a treatment that is usually performed after severe destruction of the teeth following tooth decay or as a result of a tooth injury. Most often, a crown is performed after root canal treatment, during which part of the tooth crown is removed to clean all the caries foci.
A tooth crown is designed to replace the crown/frame of the actual tooth and is individually tailored to the patient’s mouth. Most often, the crown will be made of two layers: a strong and durable inner layer made of metal and an outer layer that is typically made of porcelain. Today it is also possible to use crowns that are made of only ceramic materials, without metal, such as zirconia crowns that give an aesthetically pleasing look to the teeth.
